It's Really Hard to Let Go

Everyone tells you to let go. What letting go actually asks of you after a breakup, why it is so hard, and why it is still worth the courage.

Let's talk about letting go. In one way it's simple, and in another it's really hard to do. Yet it's one of the most important steps in getting over a broken heart.

I'm sure everyone keeps telling you to let go, that time heals everything, that you have to forget the past. And I'm sure you agree. The problem is actually doing it. Knowing what's right is one thing, and doing it is another. So I want to look more closely at what letting go means, why it's hard, and why it matters anyway.

First, letting go is hard for everyone, at any age and in any situation. With love, you have to let go of the person you loved and still love. You have to let go of the memories, the experiences, the good times. You have to let go of your feelings, your plans and the dreams you shared. And you have to let go of the habits and the daily routine you had together.

It doesn't end there. Letting go also means giving up on the person you love, and on the hope of being together again, and that's hard. When you let go, you admit that your ex wasn't as perfect as you believed. You admit that the relationship ended, that it didn't work. That takes a lot of courage, because it means facing reality as it is.

I believe there are times in life when you have to be brave, and this time you have to be brave for yourself. That's the most important thing you can do. The price of not letting go is too high. Keeping your ex in your head all the time, and believing you can still be together, stops you from moving on and finding happiness.

When you let go, things start to open up. You can begin a new life and start learning from the relationship. You become a better person and a better partner, and your next relationship will be better for it. You can finally start moving toward the life you want and deserve.

It's your time to let go, and to do whatever you need to be happy. Life isn't easy, and it takes courage to find your way back to happiness. It also takes patience, because it takes time. But if you start that journey, you will get somewhere good.
