After a breakup, one question comes up again and again: what do I do now? After being in a relationship, being alone feels strange. Suddenly a huge part of your life is missing, and everything is new.
You used to share your day with someone, and now you don't. You used to have someone you knew was yours, and now you don't. The life you knew doesn't exist anymore, and your ex isn't part of it. The word "we" is gone, and now it's "I" that matters. You're starting a new journey and a new life.
But does new always mean bad? Change can be good or bad, and a breakup has both sides too. I want you to look at the good side, because that's what will take you somewhere good. When something in life is new, it's natural to be afraid. Try not to be. A broken heart is something people all over the world go through, at every age. People get through it and are happy again. They grow and become better people, and so will you. Catastrophising won't help. Give yourself time to accept what's real.
Change and pain are how we grow, learn and improve. Reality is what it is: your ex isn't in your life, and you're hurting. You didn't choose this, that's true, but it's what you have. The best thing you can do is ask yourself how you can make it better from here. You can choose to focus on the bad, but that only brings more anxiety and pain, and it wears on your mental health.
So focus on the good. For example, write down everything you can do now that you're single. You have more time for yourself, and that can be a real opportunity to put yourself first. Is there something you always wanted to do but didn't because of the relationship? Now is the time to do it: to chase your dreams, reach your goals and make yourself happy.
Remember that this is a process, a marathon and not a sprint. Maybe your head already understands, and your heart isn't there yet. Take your time. Don't give up on yourself. You deserve more, and your happiness is worth fighting for.
